Retirement Center in Palencia

Although we did not attend the service project at the retirement home in Peten, we were able to go to the one here near Guatemala City in a town called Palencia. We loaded the truck with food, personal items and cleaning supplies and met the missionaries from the Atlantico and Esperanza zones, who carried everything in. They were so good at visiting with the thirty or so residents at this retirement center, where men out-number women 2 to 1. And the Hermanas painted the fingernails of every woman. The visit really brightened the day of everyone involved! These dear people are really just abandoned; they said we were the first guests they had seen in months. Each resident also received a gift bag with personal items and treats...and were served Sister Watts cinnamon rolls! It all earned a salute from the little man who is deaf and mute.
