Last night we enjoyed a nice fireworks display--similar to what we see in the States for the Fourth of July. We understand that fireworks are a big part of their holiday festivities, and that we will hear them a lot during December and January. Why they had such a huge program last night is still a mystery to us! We don't know if it had any connection to the celebrations the night before, December 7th, which is the day they "burn the devil"! That was a new one for us! About Wednesday we started seeing vendors selling red devil pinatas, and when we asked we were told that they burn them on the 7th. Some of these figures were considerably larger-than-life, like the top photo where he towered about ten feet high! Most were only three or four feet tall.
