We entered the MTC on July 16, 2012, for five days of training. There were 91 senior missionaries who arrived that day. Destinations varied from South Africa to the Congo to Argentina to Fiji to Puerto Rico to the Ukraine and vaious U.S. states. Assignments also varied: humanitarian, office support, Area Medical Advisors, nurse, public affairs, maintenance, family history library, employment specialists, and member leadership support.
We had good training sessions, both as a large group and also in small districts. Our district included the Jeppsons, going to San Fernando, CA (office support); the Prices, going to Omaha, Nebraska (facilities maintenance), and the Hyers, going to Los Angeles (public affairs). Our young district instructors were great at teaching us new skills, directing our role playing, and encouraging our best efforts.
We also had inspirational speakers like Elder and Sister Tree, who have served four missions, one with our MN friends Matt and Sue Smith. And the devotional speaker on Tuesday night was Elder Vaughn J. Featherstone, and he was impressive--speaking for 45 minutes or so without hardly looking at his notes, quoting poems and scriptures from memory.
It was fun to run into our nephew who is in the MTC learning Spanish before going to New Mexico. In total there were about 2900 missionaries in the MTC.
