Language Training
Senior missionaries do not receive language training after they enter the Missionary Training Center (MTC) like the young missionaries. Instead, two days after our call arrived we received a phone call from the language training department offering to assign us tutors. We began with sessions on skype soon thereafter, but most of our training occurred at the MTC in their language immersion program. Because we live so conveniently close to Provo where the MTC is located, we were able to attend four weeks, five hours each day, for one-on-one language instruction. Rick was reviving Spanish skills learned 40 years ago on his mission to Mexico, and is quite pleased with the progress he has made. He had actually been studying it on his own for a couple of years. Lynda's high school Spanish was long gone, so she was basically starting over. She has a foundation, but will need to learn the rest in Guatemala. Our tutor was Leticia Murillo from Mexico City, and she was excellent at creating different lessons appropriate for both beginner and advanced!
