An unexpected surprise occurred on the way to Guatemala. Kara took us to the airport in Salt Lake City, but it wasn’t long before we learned that our flight was delayed…late enough to miss our connection in Dallas. Great news! There are few places we would rather miss a flight! Our daughter Shauna lives not far from the DFW airport! That meant we got to spend almost 24 hours with her family before returning to the airport on Sunday to catch our flight to Guatemala City. What a tender mercy!
When we arrived at Guatemala we were met by President and Sister Watts. They took us to their home, fed us, and made us feel at home. About 10:30pm they took us to our apartment where we were met by one of the couples serving in the neighboring mission. There are ten LDS mission couples living in this apartment complex. Some serve in other Guatemala City missions, some are dentists serving in the Church dental clinic, and others serve in the Central America Area office. We have had a warm welcome and will enjoy having so many new friends who can teach us things they have already learned.
