Soon after we arrived in the mission, as we began to get to know the missionaries, we became aware of some of their personal stories. Some come from very difficult home situations and
never hear from their families. And some have other difficult challenges in the mission. While we love
all the missionaries, we (especially Rick) have made it a point to reach out to
those Elders and Sisters. Rick writes them or calls them, giving encouragement. We sent personal Christmas cards to a few; for some it was the only card they have ever received. When we have become aware of needs we have purchased items, like sheets, and sent them out in the pouch. And these missionaries return the kindness with so much love! You should see the Elders embrace Elder Smith when they meet! Here is Rick with Elder A., whom we visited on the last weekend of his mission. He goes home to Honduras this week knowing he has a good friend in Elder Smith. We enjoyed sharing with him the last two baptisms of his mission, and he was honored to have us attend!
