Last weekend we spent two days at Lake Atitlan. This beautiful blue lake is surrounded by mountains, including three volcanoes. Small villages dot the shores of the lake, some of which can only be reached by boat. We took a boat to three villages, each unique, but all inhabitated by native Mayans mostly in traditional dress. We drove to two others small towns. We rode in a tuk-tuk...a little golf-cart sized, three wheeled vehicle, learned about natural dyes and herbal remedies, and did our best to "stimulate the economy" in the little shops and open-air market.
