Bien or Vien...that is the question!

The young missionaries have been great at helping Lynda with her Spanish. They listen very patiently to very slow sentences and encourage her by telling her how much better she is than the last visit. She has skype lessons twice a week with tutors at the MTC, and sometimes the missionaries help her with her homework. Elder M., shown here, was helping one day when he was in the office and corrected some sentences that she had written in preparation for her next skype class. In one sentence he corrected her spelling of "bien", making it "vien". "B" and "V" sound virtually the same. "Bien" was actually spelled correctly. He even tried to show her in the dictionary, but it was not there under V. Not wanting to embarrass him, but knowing that bien was correct, she just said that they don't have all the words in the dictionary. This shows that even the native Spanish- speakers can't tell the difference between B and V.
