This is one of the families we visit near Salama. They were baptized last July, the day before we arrived in Guatemala. They have a small farm on the side of a mountain, and grow corn, broccoli, and alverja. After our visit in their home at the base of the slope this weekend, we asked if we could take a photo of their family. Bonifacio, the father, suggested that we climb up and take the photo in his field, as the alverja was more that two feet high. We have been unable to ascertain what "alverja" is, as it is not in our dictionary. To our surprise, as soon as we saw the crop we discovered that "alverja" is snap peas! He and Rick went to the top where the crop was ready to pick and returned with a cowboy hat full, and they are so good! They will be harvesting soon and exporting them to China. Rick has invited the family to set a goal to attend the temple next summer, to which they agreed. So the next time we put their photo on the blog we hope it will be in front of the temple! Book of Mormon all the way up the mountain to have it in his hand in the photo!
