Our various responsibilities allow us to work quite a bit with the young missionaries. We are usually in the office 1-2 days per week, and there are six or seven Elders who work there also--the Assistants to the President, the Secretaries, and the Elders who handle the finances. We also visit investigators or Church members with some of the missionaries, work with many on their language studies, and visit the missionaries in their apartments. We love these young Elders and Hermanas. They are a great example of young people giving their all to make a lasting difference in the lives of others, giving to others as the Savior did. But every six weeks some of them finish their missions. And they go home! Sister Watts warned us this would happen! It is bitter-sweet to see them go. Before they go, the mission holds a testimony meeting where these missionaries share testimony of Gospel truths. This is usually done in Spanish, though we have heard some speak in English (Latin missionaries who have learned English on their mission) or occasionally in Q’eqchi' by those who have learned the native Mayan language. This young Elder, returning to his home country of Honduras, spoke in four language--Spanish, English, Q’eqchi' and Portuguese! He has learned both English and Q’eqchi' in the last two years. He is certainly gifted in this way! We had the pleasure of working with him in one of our branches, San Pedro Ayampuc.
