Rick had the truck, so he drove a ways out of town to their visits. They met with a young family who joined the Church three months ago. The husband had recently received the Priesthood, and the following day would be assisting with the Sacrament for the first time; Rick and the missionaries gave him some instruction on the performance of his duties. They also tried to see a man who was up the mountain...way up the mountain...in his corn field. While waiting for him to come down they spoke with a woman who is not a member of the Church while she shucked peas...and they helped! Rick's fingers were green when he came back after 45 minutes of helping! Unfortunately, the man didn't make it down to see them!
While they were out, Lynda went on three visits with these cute little Hermanas, both from Honduras. The one on the left had only four days left in the mission! Both speak pretty good English, in fact all native Spanish-speaking missionaries are enrolled in a program to learn English, particularly while they are serving with English-speaking companions. Fortunately, these Hermanas speak better English than Lynda's Spanish, and all were able to communicate.
First they visited with two women; one had been baptised at the beginning of September, and the other (her cousin) is scheduled for the end of the month. Both are from Livingston, an area on the
east coast which had a lot of British and Caribbean influence...therefore, they knew a lot of English! The Hermanas left a spiritual message, and had a good visit. The next day we saw both sisters at Church.
Next they visited a less-active sister, and werejoined by her husband and some grandchildren.
Again a message was left, and before leaving, they were entertained by a musical concert on the marimba, as this man is a musician. He has two of these beautiful wooden instruments, and was joined in a duet by his grandson! And it was nice to see him the next day at Church so Rick could also meet him.
The third visit was to give a lesson to two new investigators. The woman is illiterate, but she attends night school for adults, and is learning to read and do arithmetic. The Hermanas have been helping her with her homework. They gave a Book of Mormon to the husband, and he read a chapter while the ladies worked on a subtraction assignment.
The baptism that evening was for a young mother whose husband is already a member of the Church. They have a little boy who is 7 months old, and the father told us he is a "misionero futuro."
