We enjoy the beautiful flowering trees we see in Guatemala. This is the Jacaranda, which started blooming here in the city about mid-January and is still in bloom. In the morning the street below each tree is covered with blue flowers that have fallen, but most are quickly swept up.
We don't know the name of this pretty pink tree. The clusters of pink blossoms appeared about February in the Salama area, and are now showing up in the city, which seems to be about a month behind in its vegetation. We think there may actually be two different pink-blossomed trees, as some are a bit darker in color. But since the flowers are so high up, it is difficult for the untrained eye to ascertain the difference.
This orange-blossomed tree is the Arbol del Fuego, or Tree of Fire. It was in bloom when we arrived in July and was strikingly beautiful for at least six months, with its 7" flowers. This photo doesn't do it justice. Fortunately we've got another summer to try to get a better one.
